George E. Dabrunz, 98, of Fremont, passed away July 18, 2025, at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont. He was born on February 22, 1927, in Fremont, Ohio, to Ernest and Loretta (Schmittuz) Dabrunz.

George was well known for his green thumb and love of the outdoors. He owned and operated Schmittuz Gardens located in Fremont. George remained fiercely dedicated to his work until he finally decided to take a break at the age of 95. For many years, he sold flowers and vegetables at the Toledo Farmers’ Market, Detroit’s Eastern Market, and Jamie’s Flea Market, where he was well known as “Fremont George”. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends, and was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Scott Dabrunz, Tim (Ester) Dabrunz, and Richard “Rick” Dabrunz; step-children, Lisa King and Jeff Fisher; grandchildren, Jonathan (Nina) Dabrunz, Michael (Tricia) Dabrunz, Julie (Jon) Stawowy, Lindsey (David) Akers, James Abney, and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters-in-law, Donna Dabrunz, Brenda Dabrunz; step-son, Bobby Fisher; first wife, Virginia (Meyer) Dabrunz, and his second wife, Mary (Fisher) Dabrunz.

Per his wishes, services will be private for the family.

In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State Street, Fremont, OH, 43420.
