George Allen "Joe" Dean

George Allen “Joe” Dean, 82, of Salisbury, passed away January 2, 2026 at his residence.

Born November 4, 1943 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Mary Lou Mayhew and George Dean. He was a 1962 graduate of West Rowan High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, who he married June 30, 1962, Louise Watson Dean on April, 22, 2025; brothers, Harry Dean, Lonnie Dean, Floyd Dean, Clyde Dean; and sisters, Addie McDaniel, Helen Bringle, Betty Dean, Nancy Dean, Jean Hayes, Myrtle Curlee, Faye Ellenburg, Verie McCoy, Bertie Kluttz; and sister-in-law, Jean Shoaf.

Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Wayne Dean (Jean)of Huntington, TN, Steve Dean of Salisbury; sister, Kathy Cesario of Salisbury; brother-in-law, Larry Watson; niece Tonya Barber (Jason), nephew, Jimmy Shoaf III (Jennifer), great-nieces, Paige Barber, McKenzie Shoaf, Kaitlyn Sells (Lee); great-nephews, Shane Barber, Chase Shoaf; brother-in-law, Jimmy Shoaf, Jr.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Monday (January 5) at Salem Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Ernie Sheldon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family would like to recognize Cathy Misenheimer a devoted care giver who was much more than a caregiver. She was family, a constant presence and a source of comfort and love.
