George O'Neal DeLoach, 88, widower of Donnie Bunton DeLoach, of Beaufort, SC, died Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at his residence.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 3-5 pm at Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00 am in Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. DeLoach was born on January 15, 1936 in Beaufort, SC. He is the son of the late George Tillman DeLoach and Alma Thomas DeLoach.
O'Neal, George, Mr. DeLoach, Dad, Grandaddy, or Big Papa, as he was known, graduated as part of the Tidal Wave Class of 1956 and married the love of his life, Donnie Marie Bunton, in 1957. He spent 9 years serving in the National Guard while also working as a Photographer in the Parris Island Photo Shop - taking photos of recruits and military life. This led to a life-long passion for photography and Mr. DeLoach was often seen with a camera around his neck, capturing memories. After dedicating 20+ years to Parris Island as a photographer, he spent 15 years as a delivery driver for Purolator/Emery Worldwide out of Charleston.
After retirement in 2001, Mr. DeLoach spent his years fishing, shrimping, or crabbing, attending the ballgames of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Gamecocks, enjoying breakfast at Golden Corral or the Waffle House, going on rides in the car to visit family or check out the boat landings, and fiddling with many "doohickeys" both in and outside of his home of 66 years on Sycamore Street. He taught multiple generations so many things and will be missed by all. His legacy will continue on in his extended family.
Surviving are two sons, Terry O'Neal Deloach and David Anthony DeLoach; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Hauff and Denice Renee Binette; two sisters, Mary Fox and Janet Thames; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
