George "Ed" Dhooghe, Jr., 66, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 12:56 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024, one day before his 67th birthday. Death followed a brief illness.
He was born June 13, 1957, in Parsons, to George Edward Dhooghe, Sr. and Beulah Ellen (Newton) Dhooghe-Owens. He grew up on a farm northeast of Parsons and attended school three years at the St. Patrick School in Parsons. He completed his schooling in St. Paul, graduating in 1975.
Ed worked in the carpentry shop at the Parsons State Hospital one year. He helped his dad on the farm and eventually worked side by side, farming in the summer and building homes during the winter until his dad passed away in 1985. For the next eighteen years he dedicated his work to farming and carpentry. Next he leased his ground and dedicated himself full time to construction work. All in all he built homes for forty-five years, sometimes for several generations of families, before slowing down. In later years he would often do small jobs for people he had built homes for.
Ed married the love of his life, Celiece Willis, on May 23, 1975 in Parsons. She survives of the home. Other survivors are two sons, Chris Dhooghe of Kansas City and Jeff Dhooghe (Jessica) of Parsons; daughters-in-law, Bridget LaForge Dhooghe and Shana Kelley, both of the Kansas City area; ten grandchildren, Natalie, Christopher, Caroline, McKinlee, Sidney, Lillian, Seth, George, Alexander and Ewing; brothers, Jerry Dhooghe, Larry Dhooghe and Max Dhooghe (Cindy); sisters, Karen Myers (Mike), Theresa Estrada (Raul), Judy Lewis (Pete) Sheila Blaschke (Ron) and Terri Joslen (Jeff); step-brother, James Owens; mother-in-law, Betty Willis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve (Ginger) Willis, Mary Willis, Marcia Ellis, Tina (Rocky) Arb, Diane Johnson and Lynn (Brad) Myers; numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Dick Owens; his father in-law, Joe Willis, a brother in-law, Jim Willis and a nephew, Joe Dhooghe.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 15, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Rev. Curtis Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church. They may be left at or sent to the funeral home at P. O. Box 942, Parsons, KS. 67357. Online messages may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
