George Dickinson Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

George Dickinson Jr., 90, of Springfield PA entered eternal life on Oct 1,2025

Born in Philadelphia to the late George Dickinson Sr. and Mary (Hood) Dickinson, George grew up in North Philadelphia and along with his family was a member of St. Columbus Parish. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School. One of the highlights of his time at Roman Catholic was that he played on the varsity basketball team.

Following high school, George honorably served in the United States Army. After his service, he married the love of his life, Ellen, and together they shared 63 wonderful years as devoted members of Holy Cross Parish. George was very active in the CYO program. He was a coach and he served as president for several years.

George was an avid sports enthusiast. Whether cheering for the Phillies, Eagles, Notre Dame football, or college basketball, you could always find him in front of the TV on game day. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling with friends. Yet, his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren compete in their sporting events-always present on the sidelines or in the bleachers, offering unwavering support.

George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellen Dickinson. He is survived by his loving children, Daniel Dickinson (Tina) and Linda Gillespie (John), and was the proud grandfather of Amy (Dan), Beth (Matt), Tim, Meghan, Daniel Jr. (Taylor), Catherine, and Matthew. George also cherished his seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his four brothers and one sister. His love and loyalty to family and friends will always be remembered.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate George's life at his Viewing on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 Springfield Road, Springfield, PA 19064. A second viewing will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Road, Springfield, PA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.
