In Loving Memory of George Jeffrey Dixon Honoring a Cherished Father, Son, Brother, Friend, and Inspiration
George Jeffrey Dixon was born in Santa Monica, CA on January 19, 1963, to George and Marilyn Dixon. He spent his early years growing up on 5th Avenue in Los Angeles. The family eventually moved to Carson, a suburb just south of Los Angeles. Jeff spent those formative years growing up on Scobey Ave surrounded by friends and family, playing basketball, baseball and football, often being coached by his father, competing against other kids on neighboring streets and at Del Amo Park where the entire Dixon family was involved in athletics. Jeff started high school in southern California where he played basketball and started to excel in football. The summer before his senior year, the family moved from Carson to Modesto in the Central Valley. Jeff spent his senior year at Modesto High School playing football and basketball, eventually earning a scholarship to play football at San Francisco State University. In 1983 Jeff enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany and served in the Signal Battalion. Jeff served four years in the army. Upon concluding his service in the US Army, Jeff enrolled at California State University Northridge where he resumed playing football. After concluding his time at Northridge, Jeff started his career at Home Depot where he would work until his retirement in 2024. During his time at Home Depot, Jeff was promoted to store manager where he excelled at turning low performing stores around and making them successful. Those who worked for Jeff, almost universally speak of him in glowing terms. It was at Home Depot that he found his true calling. Home Depot eventually moved Jeff from Modesto to Michigan where he was charged with turning around several stores in the Detroit area. It was in a Home Depot store in Michigan that Jeff would meet his future wife, Carolyn. Together they would have three daughters, Emily, Ava and Mya. Jeff was known for his open heart and the generosity of his spirit. His warmth drew people in, and his sense of humor brought comfort and joy in both trials and triumphs. Whether offering a helping hand or a listening ear, Jeff's presence was a steady force to family and friends alike. Jeff approached life with enthusiasm, pursuing his interests with energy and dedication. Two of his greatest passions, fishing and cooking were lived out fully and shared freely. There was little that brought more joy to Jeff than spending the day preparing a wonderful meal, sharing it with loved ones, then taking pictures of it and putting it on Facebook for all the world to see. Every Saturday afternoon in the fall, you would find Jeff watching his beloved Michigan Wolverines football team and Sunday afternoons spent cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. To his family, Jeff was a steadfast source of support, love, and laughter. His friendships were lifelong, marked by loyalty and genuine care. Jeff's ability to connect and inspire is a legacy that endures in the hearts of all who knew him. As we mourn Jeff's passing, we also celebrate the countless ways he enriched our lives. His kindness, humor, and resilient spirit leave a lasting imprint. Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory will guide and uplift us in the days ahead. Jeff was a beloved brother, friend, and source of light to all who knew him. Jeff's life was a tapestry woven with kindness, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those around him. He left this world far too soon, yet the echoes of his compassion and spirit will remain with us always. Jeff was preceded in death by his father George. He leaves behind his three daughters, Emily, Ava and Mya, his mother Marilyn, sisters Pam and Marie and brothers Mike and Ronnie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jeff will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones find solace in the enduring warmth of his memory.
