Robert Dixon Obituary
Robert Donald Dixon, born on December 23, 1969, in Wilmington, North Carolina, 55, passed away in his hometown on July 12, 2025, after his long fight with kidney disease.
A graduate of JT Hoggard High School, Robert furthered his education at Cape Fear Community College, where he earned a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management.
Known to his friends as Bob or Bobby he worked on his Mother's shrimp boat in his youth with Capt. Lacy Garner & brother Pete "Paris" Dixon out of Sea Breeze near Carolina Beach. He went on to work at Spencer's Gifts in the mall for a good while and managed Atlantic Towers condominiums. In the 90's he owned Hustlers Pool Hall on 42nd St. He worked at various hotels in the area ending up at the Harbor Inn as his last employment. Bobby worked for Uber but he's been that for all of his friends since he learned to drive. Usually the designated driver, he always looked after his people. Amateur photographer, Masseuse, Trivia Master, Movie Buff, and History Nut. One of his favorite pastimes was hanging out at Hooters, Buffalo wild wings, & Tilted Kilt. He had a lot of friends at those places.
Caring & selfless, the keeper of secrets and his word. If Bob was your friend he was probably your best one. Bob lived to hang out & socialize. The best story & dirty joke teller. Bobby loved to tell a story, and he never let the truth get in the way of a good one. Being the life of the party, Bobby loved to dress nice & smell good. He absolutely lived to travel. Getting in as many road trips as he could with friends over the years until his illness got the better of him. Key West was his favorite place, probably due to his love of Jimmy Buffet. A lifelong Parrot-Head Bob loved to cruise Carolina, Kure, & Wrightsville beach with his friends listening to good music with an eye out for the nearest bikini.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dixon and Anne Lane Dixon, his brother Malcom Dixon, and his beloved aunt and uncle, Celeste Dixon and Alan Lane.
He is survived by his brother, Pete Dixon, and nieces and nephews Courtney Sblendorio, Alyssa Dixon, Billy Longeil, Amber Dixon, and Malcom Dixon Jr. Robert's kindness and generosity touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed by friends far and wide.
Family and friends will gather to honor Robert's memory with a memorial get-together on Saturday, August 2nd, at 4 p.m. at Kure Beach Pier near the North Side Pavilion. A celebration of life will follow at 6 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, 5533 Carolina Beach Road, Monkey Junction. All who knew Robert are invited to join in remembering a life well-lived.
Bobby leaves us with holes in our hearts. He will be missed by friends, family & coworkers. But now that his suffering is over, he can finally rest. He loved his friends & family very deeply. I'm sure every one of us felt that at one time or another.
