George Duncan Obituary

George Howard Duncan, 85, nicknamed "Pete" as a child, passed away peacefully January 22, 2025, in Charlotte, NC. He was born on March 6, 1939, in Tomnolen, Mississippi, to John (Jack) Howard Duncan and Clara (Box) Duncan.
George is a 26-year Army veteran serving his country both stateside and internationally. George was stationed in Thailand, Korea, Vietnam and Germany where he met his first love, Helga. He was married to Helga for just shy of 50 years and they had two children together: son Gordon and daughter Corinna. George and Helga traveled and lived all over the world while George proudly and bravely served our country until he retired from the Army in 1984 while living in Germany.
Upon retirement George and Helga returned to the US to live closer to family until he began his second career in sales and moved to Winchester, VA. After his second retirement they settled in Charlotte in 2005 to be closer to their children. George lost his beloved Helga in 2011 to ovarian cancer in Charlotte.
George had many interests. He was an avid bass fisherman, gardener, crossword and Sudoku puzzler, enjoyed playing cards, took up woodworking, cooking and was a prolific reader after his second retirement.
George was blessed to find love for a second time when he reconnected with Nancy Wood, his soon to be second wife, who he knew from high school in San Augustine, TX. Nancy was living in Nashville at the time and George swept her off her feet, they were soon married, and he brought her to Charlotte where they spent the next 14 years together extending his family.
George is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children Corinna (Cori) (Mike) Grippo, and Gordon (BJ) Duncan; his stepchildren Kellie (Jim) Ravech, Jym (Mitsuko) Pate, Fran (Jeff) Conner and his beloved grandchildren; Tanner Duncan and Noah Duncan and beloved step grandchildren Gabe Grippo, Lindsay (Chad) Moore, Michelle (Mitch) Kingston, Katherine (Jimmy) Ockford, Kaina Pate, Tora Pate, Alyssa (Paul) Seidler, Gavin Conner, Sean Viola and Tyler Conner; his younger siblings James Craig (Darlene) Duncan, and Brenda (Robert) Adams; and many nieces and nephews and great step grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Helga, younger sisters, Caroline Duncan and Charlotte "Charlie" Duncan Hill.
A private family Graveside Service/Celebration of life to celebrate George will be held.
