George was born the youngest and only boy on the family farm December 16th 1935 to John and Mary (Blesse)Evan and attended country school in Bricelyn, Minnesota. In his earlier years, George was married to Ginny Wolter in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and together they welcomed five children: Rick, Roni, Robin, Roxanne, and Rayne.

He had many types of jobs over the years, including family farming, vending machine sales filler, working for green giant , and truck driving. In his younger years, he especially loved demolition derbies—and even won a couple of trophies, He loved to tell many stories including one memorable demo where he used the family car.

Later on in life he would marry Florence “Dee” (Minnich) Kemp on August 3, 1981, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. With their marriage, they blended two families—adding Archie, Todd, and Timothy—and George and Dee later welcomed a daughter, LaManda, bringing their family to a lively total of nine children. George and Dee shared a life built on hard work, loyalty, and the kind of partnership that shows itself in everyday devotion.

For many years, George and Dee owned and operated Night Owl Cleaning Service in Savanna, serving their community with reliability and pride. George also worked as service manager at Reiland’s Coast-to-Coast Hardware in Savanna, where he was known for his practical know-how and willingness to help customers find a solution.

George had a creative side, too. He enjoyed making wooden crafts, many of them for Dee’s Gifts and Crafts and Buttons & Bows in Savanna. A familiar sight to those who knew him, George loved wearing his cowboy boots and carried himself with a calm confidence and a touch of fun.

George was also a man of faith and fraternity. He was a dedicated Catholic and member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Savanna where you would likely find him at least four days a week, helping open and close the church and leading the rosary .He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. John’s in Savanna, serving as a third-degree and fourth-degree knight and held the grand knight position.
