So sorry to learn of George's passing. He was the main motive force behind my return to cycling some forty years ago. We were introduced by a mutual friend with whom he and his friend Artie Weiss rode, and soon I joined for a foursome which traveled every weekend from Commack to Port Jefferson and back; then we both joined the Huntington Bicycle Club. George led many rides and was respected for his knowledge, experience and humorous personality. I particularly remember him helping to fix a flat and tossing the plastic screw-on tube valve cover with the exclamation, "You don't need that schmootzik." All things unnecessary were schmootziks, very funny word for such parts to be dismissed by a truly ecumenical Catholic guy among Jewish cyclists, lol. I enjoyed keeping in touch from Arizona and exchanging holiday cards, especially since his artistic wife Deanna created such beautiful ones every year. George worked as a financial documents printer but his life was his family and his cycling avocation. He was a great guy and I'm going to miss him.
