George Junior Ferguson, 95, of Oakland, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Cherry Hill Assisted Living. Born October, 26, 1927, in Mtn. Lake Park, he was the son of the late George W. and Alice (Schmidt) Ferguson.

He was a United States Army Veteran and had worked at Westvaco in the wood yard. After his retirement, he donated his time serving on different county charities. In 2005, he was named Garrett County's Most Beautiful Person. George was famously known as "The Cookie Man". He was a handy man who never found something that he couldn't fix. George loved being around people and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Cannon and husband Harold and Connie DeWitt and husband Kenny, both of Oakland; a son, Randy Ferguson of Currituck, NC; grandchildren, Shelli Hill, Kerri Everd, Janet Sisler, Brian DeWitt, Tammy William, Kira Hunt, Lee Ferguson and Brittany Ferguson; and great grandchildren, Sami, Mason, Taylor, Anthony, Jayden, Kierra, Cody, Tiffany and Trevor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Ferguson; daughter, Lucinda Ruth Ferguson; and brothers, Robert Ferguson and Phillip Ferguson, Sr.

Family and friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, 21 N. 2nd Street, Oakland, MD on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 1to 4 PM and Monday, February 20, 2023, from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Kevin Maul officiating. Interment, with military honors accorded by the combined honor guard of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077, will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
