George Rex Folkerts, 93 of Steamboat Rock, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was born March 18, 1931, to Rex and Minnie (Christians) Folkerts in Eldora, Iowa.

George was raised around Steamboat Rock, Iowa and graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1948. He farmed with his dad until he entered the United States Army in 1952. George was honorably discharged in 1954.

On October 8, 1954, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Zimmerman at Baileyville Baptist Church in Baileyville, Illinois. He spent his entire life farming northeast of Steamboat Rock. In January 1996, the couple moved into Steamboat Rock. George was a member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, on the missionary committee, and AWANA volunteer. Then he worked as the church custodian for 20 years.

He enjoyed being outdoors, farming, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with friends and family, especially grandchildren.

George’s memory is honored by his children; Randy (Sandy) Folkerts of Aplington, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Folkerts of Steamboat Rock, Kathy Wood of Holland, and Rodney (Andrea) Folkerts of Eldora, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanette on December 31, 2015, daughter Bonnie Jean, brother Harry Folkerts, sister Luella Patterson, two brother-in-law’s and a sister-in-law.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. George will be laid to rest next to his wife Jeanette in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery.
