George Foreman Obituary

Published by Woody Funeral Home Parham - Richmond from Mar. 6 to Mar. 9, 2011.
FOREMAN, George Harry, of Richmond, age 81, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born November 3, 1929 in Chicago and was raised on the South Side. He graduated from Morgan Park High School and Morgan Park Junior College. In 1981, he graduated from Columbia University's Executive Program in Business Administration. He proudly served in the Army in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel G. and Harry B. Foreman of Chicago. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roxana G. Foreman of Richmond; his sister, Irene F. Roebuck of Chicago; his daughter, Kimberly F. Napier and husband, Jeff, of King William; his son, George W. Foreman and wife, Lynne Helms Foreman, M.D., of Chester; his beloved grandchildren, Alex, Blake and Jack Foreman of Chester, Lauren N. Rhyne and husband, John, of Ashland, Megan N. Porter and husband, Danny, of Gloucester; and great-grandson, Trey Rhyne. George lived a wonderful life. He was a beloved husband, a great dad, a strong role model, an ethical and honorable man. He retired after 39 years with Reynolds Metals Co. as vice president of sales and national sales manager, consumer products division. He was a deacon and Sunday School leader at Second Baptist Church. He and Roxana enjoyed being a part of their church family for worship, service and fellowship. He enjoyed playing tennis, keeping in good shape and working around the yard. He loved his hometown of Chicago for its history, the White Sox, the Bulls, and was a 25-year Bears season ticket holder. Many of his fondest memories came on Sundays as he and his son would freeze at Wrigley Field and Soldier Field cheering for, and usually lamenting the fate of, the Bears. The Foreman family will receive friends on Thursday evening, March 10, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, Richmond. Following a private burial on Friday, March 11, there will be a Celebration of Life Service at 1 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road, Richmond, with Rev. Craig A. Sherouse, Ph.D. presiding. The family would like to thank George's many caregivers, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, and Bon Secours Hospice, St. Mary's for their wonderful devotion, care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, or to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/grva.
