George Wayne Gass, 87, of West Frankfort passed away at 12:50pm on Wednesday July 17, 2024 at his home peacefully with his wife Randa, Randa's son Roger King, and George's daughter Rhonda Darnell by his side.
He was born on April 29, 1937 in West Frankfort to George Wilburn and Irene (Mitchell) Gass. He married Randa Garner on April 8, 2006. George worked 36 years for Darnell Heating and Cooling. He was an arial photographer in the Navy. He attended the Heights Church of God with Pastor Rodney Briscoe.
George was preceded in death by his parents; sister Gloria Gass; and brothers Wilburn Gass and Gerald Gass.
Survivors include his wife Randa; daughters Lanarda (David) Powell, Rhonda (Jim) Darnell, Wayna (Philip) Fuller, Amber (Brent) Collum, Pat (Jack) Calvert, Pam (TIm) Braddy, and Bobbie (Roger) Melvin; 2 sisters Shirley (Bill) Steh and Barbara (Conrad) Irby; 2 brothers Don (Linda) Gass and Joe (Donna) Gass; a grandson he raised Dalton Gass; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday July 20, 2024 in the Heights Church of God in West Frankfort at 11:00am with Pastor Rodney Briscoe officiating. Interment will be in the Denning Cemetery on the Orient Road. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 1961 of Orient and Zeigler Post 177. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00am prior to the service. Memorials in George's name may be made to the Heights Church of God and will be accepted at the funeral home.
