George Charles Giannasi, cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025 at the age of 87 in
Lake Forest, Illinois. Born in Highland Park, Illinois to Joseph and Lucia Giannasi, George grew up with a foundation of strong family values and a passion for craftsmanship that would later define his life. His early years were shaped by his baptism and confirmation at St. James Church in Highwood, reflecting a strong connection to family and tradition. In later life, he saw himself as a friend of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest where he found companionship and a sense of community. He graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to further develop his skills by attending carpenter apprenticeship school, which led to a distinguished career making ornate wood staircases of all sizes in commercial buildings and celebrity mansions. George was a proud life member of the Modenese Society in which he enjoyed spending time at countless social events, dances, and picnics throughout the years. He also held a life membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America where he was deeply respected for his unwavering dedication, technical expertise and the integrity he brought to every aspect of his work. George married the love of his life, Barbara, and shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. In their early years George and Barbara entered a partnership at The Music Center in Deerfield where they spent several years selling all types of musical instruments. Together, they built a family that included their son, Richard (Shannon), along with their adored grandchildren, Damian and Lumen. His family was the cornerstone of his life. He enjoyed building model rockets and RC planes with his son while instilling the values of hard work and integrity. George's stepmother, Rita Vanni, his nieces, Chris and Karen, along with his nephew Eric and several cousins also held very special places in his heart. His thoughtful nature and loyalty left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. George found peace on the golf course, where the quiet rhythm of the game brought him joy beneath wide open skies. He loved spending hours crafting unique items within his woodshop. He enjoyed countless cruises and vacations across the world. Music was the soul of his home, a gentle presence that lifted hearts and lingered long after each note. In every swing and every song, he shared the beauty he saw in the world. As we remember George, we celebrate a life rich in love, purpose and strength. His presence was a steady comfort to those around him and the legacy he leaves is one of generosity, wisdom and enduring creativity. His thoughtful guidance will continue to light our way, his kindness will remain a source of warmth, and the beauty he brought into the world will inspire us for years to come. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, which will be shared once arrangements are coordinated. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's name may be made to a
