Richard M. Dudley, 85, of Lake Forest, Illinois passed away on September 4, 2025. Richard was born in Evanston, Illinois to loving parents, Michael R. and Irene P. Dudley. His life was a testament to his dedication to his family, his country, and his profession. Richard, known affectionately as "Dick" by his friends and family, graduated from New Trier High School before earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois. He cherished his time at Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1962, Ensign Dudley spent active duty on the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. He continued in the Navy Reserves as Executive Officer to Navel Air Intelligence and retired as a Commander in 1982. His service in the Navy marked his deep sense of duty and pride for his country. After leaving active duty he started his career in healthcare publishing, where we worked for McGraw Hill, American Hospital Association, and Healthcare Financial Management Association. His 45-year tenure in the industry was characterized by the same dedication and excellence that defined his military service. He retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to the field. Dick was an avid sports fan, particularly loving his Chicago Bears, Fighting Illini, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also loved playing golf with his friends and fishing in Canada every time he could get there. He was often seen surveying the neighborhood walking the dogs with a cigar in one hand and a Manhattan in the other. He was the beloved husband to Celynda "Cindy" Dudley and together shared 49 years together. Richard cherished the time spent with his family. Father to his children, Mark (Anne) Dudley, Allison (Chuck) Corder, and Michael Chase (Sandy) Dudley. Grandfather to Grace, Caroline, Charlie, Samantha, Julia, Lydia, and Mikey. Brother to Ken (Pat) Dudley. Those who knew Dick will remember him for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his ability to bring laughter to any room. Dick's legacy is one of love, laughter, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, Vattman Road, Fort Sheridan, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Dick may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Reuland & Turnbough Funeral Directors of Lake Forest at (847) 234-9649 or www.RTfunerals.com
