James Joseph Cahill Jr.

James Joseph Cahill, Jr., of Addison, Illinois, passed away on September 4, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born on March 12, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elenor and James Cahill Str., James will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He cherished his family above all else and created a lifetime of loving memories with them. His warmth, humor and steady presence touched the lives of many.

A proud graduate of the University of Illinois, James served his country as a United States Marine. He dedicated 33 years of his career to Motorola, where his hard work and loyalty left a lasting impact. James was longtime member of the Addison Rec Club, where he formed many friendships and enjoyed being part of the community. He gave back by coaching youth sports for many years, inspiriting and guiding young athletes with patience and encouragement. A passionate hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and found peace in nature.

James shared a long marriage of 60 years with his wife, Sandra (Kube) Cahill. He is also survived by his daughter, Dawn Volkmar, and her husband, Michael; his son, Jim, and his wife, Sharon; and his nine adored grandchildren, Mikey Volkmar, Molly Volkmar, Maggie Volkmar, Macie Volkmar, Miley Volkmar, Charlotte Cahill, Jimmy Cahill, Kelly Cahill and Patrick Cahill. He is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel, and his sister, Carol.

Friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Pedersen Ryberg Funeral Home, 435 North York Street, Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 134 Arthur Street, Elmhurst. Interment at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of James' life.
