Jo Ellen Cahill, 88, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on September 4, 2025.
Visitation will be before the service from 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Llano Cemetery in the Mausoleum Chapel. Services will follow at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Llano Cemetery in the Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Bret McCasland officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.
Jo Ellen was born in Lamesa, Texas on January 7, 1937, to Elizabeth Chancie (Merchant) and Elmer Jake Weatherbee. She attended Carey High School and later graduated with an associate’s degree from Amarillo College and a bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University. She married Roy “Buddy” Cahill in 1982.
Jo Ellen taught mostly for primary grade schools in Amarillo, Texas, Portales, New Mexico, Roswell, New Mexico, and Farwell, Texas. She loved teaching and taught for 15 years.
Jo Ellen enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting pictures, planting flowers and gardening. She was a master at organization and a great planner. While her children were young, she could always be found at their events and would often make their clothing. She also loved decorating her home and was very good at it.
Above all, Jo Ellen loved her family. She cherished each moment she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Jo Ellen was a member of the Church of Christ at the Colonies and enjoyed spending time with her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy “Buddy” Cahill; and sister, Ruth Ann and son-in-law, Buddy Townsend.
She is survived by her children, Sheri Hurst and husband Terry, Cindy Aycock and husband Brad, Russell Bounds and wife Kay; step-children, James Cahill and Cindy Johnson; and nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
