Juanita Cruz, 83, of Amarillo, TX passed away September 7, 2025.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 12, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will be in Dawson County Cemetery in Lamesa, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Juanita was born August 16, 1942 in Edcouch, TX to Estevan Cruz and Antonia Villarreal Cruz. She graduated from Price Memorial College (Alamo Catholic High) in 1960. Juanita served the church for 17 years as a nun.
Juanita continued her education at West Texas State University. She graduated from WT on December 17, 1976 with Bachelors in Social Work. Her desire to help people in the community led her to work for Catholic Family Services, Adoption Division. She then worked for the 47th Judicial District Probation Department from November 15, 1978-August 24, 2012. Upon retirement, she realized she had more to give to her community. She then joined the Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary where she served until her declining health forced her to retire and was proud to have 5500 hours of volunteer service.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Steve Cruz Jr.; sisters, Maria Jessie Cruz Soliz, Manuela Cruz Rebber, and Suzanna Cruz; and her furbabies, Gabby and Dolce.
Juanita is survived by her sisters, Mary Ybanez and Martha Cruz both of Lamesa, TX; and several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary’s Scholarship Tuition Program.
