George Franklin Grimsley, 71, of Jones County, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 18, 1954, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Charlie and Myrtle Grimsley, George lived a life full of strength, kindness, and adventure, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
A proud Boilermaker with the International Brotherhood Local 26 for 38 years, George retired in 2012 after a career defined by hard work and camaraderie. His true passion, however, was his family and the country life he cherished. George loved his wife, children, and grandchildren deeply, teaching them life lessons through his wisdom, tenacity, and infectious laughter. Whether hunting, fishing, or traveling, he embraced every moment with a zest for life and a knack for finding humor in everything, earning him the affectionate title of "everyone's favorite asshole."
George was a strong, kind, and inspiring man, always ready to lend a hand or share a story. His adventurous spirit and wise counsel touched countless lives, from his immediate family to the extended Tarpleys, Spoons, and Wimberlys, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He is survived by his son, George Alon Grimsley, Sr. (Malissa); grandson, George Alon Grimsley, Jr.; granddaughters, Taylor Bass and Chloe Becker; brother, Charles Grimsley; sister, Phylis Grimsley Williams; and a wide circle of loved ones. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Delene Grimsley; his daughter, Miki Grimsley; and his parents, Charlie and Myrtle Grimsley.
A graveside service will be held at Cedar Ridge Cemetery, 118 Old Highway 18, Gray, Georgia 31032, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow. Gray Memorial Chapel is honored to be entrusted with the care of the Grimsley family. Condolences and memories may be shared at graymemorialchapel.com.
George's legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
