George W. Hall, 93, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, in Franklin, North Carolina, after a courageous battle with prolonged illness.

Born in 1931 in Nashville, North Carolina, George was the son of George W. and Maggie Mae (Wood) Hall. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy, enlisting in 1950 and serving aboard the USS Weiss during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954. Following his military service, he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from East Carolina University.

George built a life rooted in love, service, and dedication. He and his beloved wife, DeAnna “Dee” (Poole) Hall, raised their family in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he worked for over 30 years with the Florida State Division of Youth and Family Services, positively impacting the lives of countless young people. After retirement, George and Dee split their time between Largo, Florida and Franklin, North Carolina, where they were welcomed into a supportive community of friends and neighbors.

Known for his generous spirit and playful sense of humor, George found joy in life’s simple pleasures-playing golf, spending days at the beach with his children, and exploring the open road with his wife in their RV. A natural storyteller, he loved recounting tales from his life and was always ready with a memory, a joke, or a thoughtful reflection. He gave compliments freely and made friends wherever he went. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Kenneth Hall; his five sisters, Georgia McLeod, Cleon Lee, Dorothy Geddie, Lea Hardison, and Betty Musto; and his two brothers, Hiram Hall and Kenneth Hall.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Dee Hall; his daughters, Renata (Rene) Mestre of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Michelle Hall of Largo, Florida; his five grandchildren, John (Meghan) Hall of Clearwater, Florida, Skyler Greer of Largo, Florida, Marissa (John Tora) Mestre of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Amber (Foster Gesten) Mestre of Bloomington, Indiana, and Joshua Mestre of St. Petersburg, Florida; and one great-granddaughter, Peyton Hall of Clearwater, Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Merz of West Palm Beach, Florida, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Franklin, North Carolina, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 14, 2025. A military funeral service will take place in Florida at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four Seasons Hospice in Franklin, North Carolina.
