George W. Haynes Jr., 79, of Stevens, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy. Born in West Reading, George was the son of the late George W. Sr. and Mildred (Weik) Haynes and the loving husband to Barbara A. (Sweigart) Haynes for 55 years.

George grew up in the Denver area. A Navy Veteran, he served during the Vietnam conflict. George worked at Kalas Manufacturing for over 30 years, most recently as Plant Manager. He enjoyed flower gardening and photography, capturing memories of his family, sunsets, and state park scenes. A true history buff, George enjoyed participating in Civil War reenactments where he played the role of Col. Porter Alexander. He even traveled to neighboring states battlefields to perform these reenactments. George enjoyed Antiquing and finding old local treasures. He took great interest in meteorology, followed many nationwide weather maps. An avid reader, he would read all types of materials, fact and fiction. George loved animals, always having numerous pets in the house. He was independent, spoke his mind, and took genuine interest in the lives of others.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by Vicki L. Sweigart of Ephrata, Janis L. Westcott of Reading, Christopher M. Haynes of Mount Joy; grandchildren, Michelle Rucci, Steven Burd, Jamie Westcott, and Janelle Sweigart; great grandchildren, Eric Westcott, Meghan Bartholomew, Ariana Ivie, and two on the way; a sister, Bridget Throckmorton (Ray) of Richmond VA.

Services are private with military honors. George’s final resting place is in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring.
