George P Kasper

George Philip Kasper, 80, of Sandwich, MA, passed away on November 1, 2021, after a rich and fulfilling life, and just 48 hours after his son David.
George was born in Winchendon, MA, to Simon and Cecilia Kasper on April 27, 1941. He lived in Baldwinville and lost his dad at a young age. A family friend taught him to fix cars which started him toward becoming the ultimate handyman. His family moved to Greenfield, where he graduated from Greenfield High School in 1959, and fished with the Koch brothers who introduced him to their sister Janet.
George received a BS from University of Massachusetts and a PhD from Worcester Polytechnic University, both in chemical engineering. He married Janet Koch in 1966 and they moved to Burlington, VT, while he finished his doctoral thesis that she helped him type. Together they moved to Rochester, NY, where he had a 32 year career at Kodak. He began in the chemical research labs, then did research and development on high-speed copiers and office imaging equipment, holding numerous related patents.
George raised his family in Greece, NY, and was active with the Greece Soccer Club, where he assisted and managed his son's team, the Greece Express. He always had a large and prolific vegetable garden and grew the hundreds of cucumbers behind Jan's famous dill pickles. He could build or fix just about anything, took immaculate care of his home, and helped so many others with their projects. He built an awesome tree house for his kids, installed a water fountain behind the house, and even built an addition for a hot tub. He travelled to every soccer game and activity his son and daughter were in. He learned to ski with Jan in Burlington and passed along his love of the sport to his kids at Ski Valley, where he infamously took out a ski rack in front of the ladies on the sun deck. He served on the Board of Directors as President of the Inns of Waterville Valley, NH, from 2004-2008 where he and his family shared many wonderful vacations together.
In 2001, George and Jan retired to Sandwich, MA, where he became involved with First Church Sandwich UCC and led a major steeple and window restoration project. He was always willing to assist family and friends and helped Jan with her many garden endeavors all over town. He enjoyed his Friday Men's Club, Boston sports teams, and was the king of corny dad jokes. His favorite role was as "Boppy" to his two granddaughters, for whom he travelled record miles to visit and to watch their gymnastic meets and soccer games.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet, daughter Deborah Manning, her husband Neil, and their children Ella and Audrey, of South Windsor, CT, sister Carolyn (Sally) LaBonte and her husband Richard, their sons Steven and his wife Joyce Labonte, Rick and his wife Susan LaBonte, and Robert LaBonte, all of Gardner, MA. George is preceded in death by his son David and parents Simon and Cecilia Kasper.
Visiting hours will be at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, John Lawrence Chapel, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills, MA 02648 on November 6, 2021, at 10am, with a service at noon. Interment will be private.
