George Paul Kelly
February 2, 1936 – August 1, 2025
George Paul Kelly, 89, entered the arms of Jesus on the evening of August 1, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born February 2, 1936, to Donald and Mabel (Lipp) Kelly. George lived a life rich in love, laughter, and faith.
He graduated from George Washington High School in 1956 and proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge from both.
George went on to build a successful career as a skilled plumber before becoming a manager at Safeway Building Services. That's where he took pride in mentoring others-including members of his own family. He retired in 1995 and enjoyed a long, fulfilling retirement surrounded by the people and places he loved most.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Doris (Lickliter) Kelly; his son, Kevin Jay Kelly; sisters, Mildred Harris, Martha Hanrahan, Mary-Ann Thompson, Beverly Watkins, and Sharon Terhune; and brothers, Donald Kelly Jr., Gene Kelly, and Max Kelly.
He is survived by his brother, Ronald Kelly, and sister, Glenda McAtee, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his loving children, Timothy (Robyn) Kelly, Shannon (Chuck) Smith, and Tracie (Blake) Dotts.
He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. His most memorable phrase-spoken often-was, "I love you to pieces, you dirty mices." He loved to travel, share jokes, and was a faithful follower of Christ.
In recent months, George made his home in Fairland with his son, cherishing every moment surrounded by family. He took immense pride in watching his grandchildren grow into successful adults and found great joy in welcoming a new generation of great-grandchildren-blessings he counted among the greatest in his life.
George's warmth, quick wit, and steadfast love for his family touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his life on September 6th from 1–5 p.m. at the Moral Township Volunteer Fire Department (8333 N Frontage Rd, Fairland, IN 46126)
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor George's memory through simple acts of kindness-make someone laugh, share a favorite joke, or tell the people you love just how much they mean to you.
