George H. Kozak Jr., age 88, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. He was born on June 1, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to the late George Sr. and Jean (Krupkowski) Kozak.
George graduated from Wautoma High School in 1956. On August 24, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Sobieski, at St. Joseph Church in Wautoma. Together they raised their family in Appleton in the home they built with their own hands at the young age of 24. He was employed at Neenah Paper for 39 years as a Machine Tender before retiring in 1996. After his retirement, George and Lois wintered in Arizona for 17 years, enjoying 3 rounds of golf a week. During his time in Chicago, George was proud of his time working as an usher at the Cubs, White Sox and Chicago Bears stadiums.
George will be remembered as hardworking and a handyman who could fix or build anything. He loved to golf, and was a member of several golf leagues over the years. George enjoyed playing cribbage, gardening, hunting and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren in their activities. He was a very social man, always looking forward to passing the time talking with family and friends.
George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois; his children: Steve (Sharon) Kozak, Julie (Steven) Fields, Mike (Lory) Kozak, and Pam (Andrew) Tews; grandchildren: Ben (Kelly), Leah, Kendall (Emily), Ryan, Jesse, Lindsey, and Lauren; great grandchildren: James, Rose, and Piper; brothers and sisters-in-law: Paul (Donna) Kozak, John (Sandy) Kozak, Bob (Peggy) Kozak, and Andrea Kozak; and brother-in-law, Bernard Sobieski. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his in-laws: Ben and Marie Sobieski; and his brothers and sisters-in-law: Justin (Mabel) Kozak, Joe (Carol) Kozak, and Dennis "Ricky" Kozak.
Private family services for George will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Appleton. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.valleyfh.com.
