George Herald Krebs, born on April 14, 1944, in the small town of Quinn, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on August 3, 2025, in Mills River, North Carolina. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and passion that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

George was a man whose hands bore the marks of a life lived with purpose and dedication. As a construction mechanic for Black Hills Packing in South Dakota, he took pride in the craftsmanship and integrity of his work. Later, his career in water treatment in Lead, South Dakota, demonstrated his commitment to ensuring his community had the necessities for health and safety.

More than his work, George was known for his zest for life. His heart raced not only with the thrill of riding motorcycles but also with the excitement of demolition derbies, where each rev of the engine mirrored the pulse of his adventurous spirit. In quieter moments, he could be found at a card table, his eyes twinkling with delight as he played a competitive game of Spades with friends and family.

A dedicated member of New Beginnings Baptist Church, George's faith was a cornerstone of his life. It provided him the strength and guidance to be a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He graduated from high school in Quinn, South Dakota, where he began laying the foundation for the life of service and joy he would lead.

George was the youngest of nine children and was preceded in death by his parents, Herald Andrew Krebs and Alta E. Melchert Krebs; his son, Christopher "Chris" Capps; and six siblings. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Alice Mullenax Krebs, whose steadfast love was a testament to their strong bond. Together, they raised a family that includes children Scott Krebs, Roger Krebs, Jeanne Krebs, and Troy Krebs; grandchildren Daniel Colb, Magnus Krebs, Quinn Lamoureax, Cade Lamoureax, Zoe Capps, and Aubrey Capps; daughter-in-law Joy Vande Zande; brothers Douglas Krebs (Gloria) and Donald Krebs (Shirley); along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The lives George touched are too numerous to count, but each carries a part of his indomitable spirit forward. A graveside service celebrating his life and legacy will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Moore-Whitaker Cemetery in Mills River, with Pastor Billy Balcomb officiating.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Moore-Whitaker Family Cemetery, c/o Mills River Baptist Church, 689 S. Mills River Rd., Mills River, NC 28759. His memory will forever be a beacon of inspiration and warmth in our hearts. Shuler Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
