Michael "Mick" John Legris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in
Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 53. Born on June 19, 1972, in Harvard, Illinois, Mick lived a life full of adventure, service, and love.
Mick proudly served his country as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy during the Persian Gulf War, also known as Operation Desert Storm. His dedication to duty and compassionate care for his fellow servicemen were hallmarks of his time in the military, leaving an indelible impact on those around him.
Following his military service, Mick found his calling in the construction industry, where he worked as a skilled VWC wallpaper hanger. His meticulous attention to detail and work ethic earned him great respect among colleagues and clients alike.
Mick's love for life extended beyond his career. He was an avid traveler, having visited nearly all 50 states, with Utah holding a special place in his heart for its breathtaking landscapes. He was passionate about rock hounding, gardening, and growing herbs, sharing the fruits of his labor with joy and generosity.
Mick was preceded in death by his father, Michael Joseph Legris; his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Evelyn Soltwedel; and his paternal grandparents, Aubin and Roberta Legris. He is survived by his devoted mother, Kathy Legris; his loving wife of nearly 17 years, Ann Wampler; and his cherished children, Nathan Wampler (Kiesha) and Ginger Rouse (Charles "Bubba"). Mick also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, Kendra Rouse, Anastasia Rouse, Rayden Wampler, and Avery Wampler; his cousin, whom he cherished as his sister, Theresa Street (David); his niece and nephew, Kayla and Steven Street; and his best friend, Tundra.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 30, 2025, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Mick's life and legacy. Pastor Richard Merck will officiate the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael "Mick" John Legris Memorial Fund to assist with funeral expenses. Shuler Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
Mick's adventurous spirit, unwavering loyalty, and boundless love for his family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
