George Ernest Lord, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with visitation one hour prior.

George was born on January 30, 1948, in Bondurant, Iowa, the son of George and Althea (Burnett) Lord. He was a graduate of Bondurant High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning, he earned his LPN nursing degree. He worked at the VA hospital, helping his fellow veterans. George had a lifelong passion for singing, beginning in high school and continuing through his time in the Army, where he sang in the United States Army Choral group. Into his adulthood, he sang at many weddings and often lent his voice to family and friends. He also had a keen eye for photography, taking pictures at many weddings and private photography sessions. He won the Honor award from Kodak Kinsa in the People category, which was displayed at EPCOT in Disney World. The family always saw a camera hanging from George’s neck. In 2002, George and Barbara Bryan shared their home, and on June 14, 2011, they were united in marriage.

George is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara Bryan; daughter, Carin (Brandon) Bailey; stepchildren, Kelsey (Nathan) Cook, and Andrew (Tracy) Winegardner; grandchildren, Gavin Lord, William Bailey, Benjamin Bailey, Deliah Winegardner, Gunner Munson, Poet Cook, Bergie Cook, and Althea Cook; and sister, Brenda McDole.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James “Jim” Lord and DVM Frederick “Doc” Lord.
