George E. Maher

George E. Maher, 87, of Lapeer, MI passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at home peacefully while surrounded by loved ones. He was born on February 2, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to Eugene Maher and Emma Maher (Detgen). George was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting deer and turkey. He also spent many summers in Port Hope, MI catching bass and perch. He worked as a Chief Engineer for Detroit Public schools supporting his family while living in Detroit and Redford before retiring to Lapeer.

George is preceded in death by Patricia D. Maher (Gifford), his loving wife of 40 years; brothers Bill Beauchamp, Richard Maher, and James Maher and his nephew Micheal Maher.

George is survived by his devoted son Scott, loving daughter in-law Julie, granddaughter Lauren and grandson Brendan, sister in-law Marge Maher, nephews George (Pat), Jim (Amie), Gene (Char), and nieces Patty, Mary, Jayne (Brian), Julie (Kevin), Kathy and Nancy (Walter).

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Father Brian Hurley will officiate. Immediately following Mass, there will be a graveside service at Stiles Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Mayfield Township Hall.
