George Amon Mann, fondly known to many as Porge or Mayo Mann, passed away on February 24, 2025, in Germantown, TN, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 18, 1952, in Missouri, George embodied a vibrant spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him.
George's career spanned various roles, notably as a Sales Regional Manager for J and J Snack Foods. However, his entrepreneurial dreams flourished when he successfully owned a liquor store, showcasing his determination and acumen for business. Throughout his life, he remained an outgoing character, known for his generosity and energy, often lighting up any room he entered. His ability to express love was profound, often evident without the need for words.
Education was important to George, and he was particularly proud of his athletic accomplishments. As a great basketball player and a baseball enthusiast in high school, he showcased a competitive spirit that mirrored his passions in life. Beyond his professional pursuits, George found joy in several hobbies which included hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening, reflecting his love for the great outdoors. An avid smoker of cheap cigars and a skilled carpenter, he embraced every moment with fascinating individuality.
George was devoted to his family, a connection evident in his many cherished memories of hunting and fishing excursions with his sons. He never missed an opportunity to attend their sporting events and took great pleasure in traveling to the Smoky Mountains, creating a tapestry of experiences that will be lovingly remembered.
He leaves behind his loving former wife, Jackie Mann, and a legacy of love reflected in his children, David Townsend Mann (Cynthia) and Chris Mann (Amanda Autrey). George was a proud grandfather to Wade Stephens, Bryson Mann, Alaina Mann, Christopher K. Mann, Cobi Mann, Charles Mann, Camden George Mann, Ethan Autrey, and Kevin Autrey. His joy was magnified by the presence of his great-grandson, Wade Stephens III.
George is also survived by his siblings, Sherry Blair, David Mann (Beth), and James William "Jim" Mann (Paula), along with a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends who cherished him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Melba Jane Mann, his brother-in-law Don Blair, brother-in-law Sam Thomas and his great aunt and uncle, Margaret and Sonny Dawson.
His life may have come to an end, but the love and laughter he brought to this world will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. The impact of George Amon Mann's life continues to inspire as his story lives on through his family and friends. A visitation and funeral service will be held at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, MS, on February 28, 2025, followed by his burial at the Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
