George W. Maxey, 90, of Commerce City, CO, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026 in Columbiana, OH. Born on September 18, 1935, in Peoria, Illinois, George lived a life marked by dedication to his family, friends, community, and his passions.

George graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria, Illinois. He embarked on a successful career in sales with United Model Distribution and Curtis Industries. George also pursued his entrepreneurial spirit owning and operating Leisure Time, a hobby shop in Denver, CO. His professional endeavors reflected his industrious nature and commitment to excellence.

A man of many interests and talents, George was deeply involved in the Civil Air Patrol and was a skilled small craft pilot. His love for aviation was matched by his unwavering dedication to advocating for senior rights. Over the years, he contributed to 17 organizations as an advocate and leader, including serving as Chair of the Adams County Aging Network and participating in the Community Services Block Grant Advisory of Adams County and the Commerce City Senior Commission. George also played an active role at the Eagle Pointe Senior Center in Commerce City, CO and served as a van driver for outings, ensuring others could enjoy meaningful experiences.

George's service extended beyond his civilian life; he proudly served in the National Guard of Illinois and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peoria.

George is survived by his sons Charles Maxey and Paul Maxey and his daughter Laura Volenik as well as his grandchildren Dylan Maxey, Briana Maxey, and Lindsay Volenik. He was predeceased by his parents Mary Hicks and Gaylord Maxey, as well as his siblings Henry Maxey and Claudia Maxey.

Known for his mentorship, planning skills, and social nature, George inspired those around him with his wisdom and advocacy. He often said, "We never stop becoming," a sentiment that encapsulated his lifelong pursuit of growth and contribution.
