They enjoyed 71 years of marriage and spent their entire married life in the Wellman community. George farmed for many years before starting Miller's Agri Service in Wellman. He also enjoyed creating woodworking projects in his shop, such as making chessboards, chessmen, and checkers, making children’s wooden rocking chairs, grandfather clocks, coffee tables, and driving his 1951 Ford Tractor.
He served on the Wellman Volunteer Fire Department for 46 years and on the Wellman Cooperative Telephone Board for 47 years.
George is survived by his two daughters: Betty (Randy) Stumpf of Joetown, Barb Kauffman of North Liberty, John Kauffman of Wellman; five grandchildren: Kim Stumpf, Tonia (Steve) Johnston, Brandon (Bernadette) Kauffman, Brent (Kelly) Kauffman, Angie (Carl) Poulsen; nine great grandchildren: Cailee Stumpf, Dakotah Stumpf, Ashlin (Bryce) Sieren, Avery Johnston, Brayden Johnston, Brady Kauffman, Camden Kauffman, Harper Poulsen, and Leo Poulsen; and two great-great grandchildren: Addalynn Singer and Emmett Sieren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Darlene, and a sister Margaret Miller. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Parkview Manor and Compassus who showed George such compassion.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery.
