SFC (Ret) George Lewis Mitchell III, a warrior and soldier in the army of the Lord has transitioned from this life to eternal life.

Prior to his transition, George fought a good fight to the end. He fought like a true soldier until God said, "Well done my good and faithful servant," before calling him home on August 19, 2025, at the age of 68 years old. George Lewis Mitchel III will be truly missed by his family and friends.

George Lewis Mitchell III was the eldest son of the late George Louis Mitchell and the late Pauline Miller Mitchell and was born on March 3, 1957, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was raised and educated in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School System at Fairview Elementary and graduated from North Forsyth Senior High School.

George Lewis Mitchell III was a hard-working young man growing up with his three siblings, Myra, Melinda, and Melissa. He enjoyed all sports, including fishing, car racing, and camping.

George Lewis Mitchell III joined the Army in 1979 and served over 22 years of active duty. He received several awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award),

National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Overseas Service Medal (3rd award), and the Kuwait Liberation Medal and numerous other awards, decorations, and badges. After retiring from the military, he worked with Comcast/Xfinity for more than 22 years.

George Lewis Mitchell III met Freda in Basic Non-commission Officer Course (BNOC) in Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1983 and married her in Seoul, Korea in 1984. They had two sons, Damien Holloway and Darrell Lewis Mitchell and had been married for more than 41 years.

George Lewis Mitchell III is preceded in death by his father, George Louis Mitchell; mother, Pauline Miller Mitchell; sister, Melinda Morgan; and son, Darrell Lewis Mitchell. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Freda Mitchell; two sisters, Myra Tucker (Harold), Melissa Sweeny; his son, Damien Hollaway; granddaughters, Naryah Mitchell and Damien Hollaway Jr.; his God and granddaughter, Arniyah Butler; and his God children; Zheniah Butler, Zhenova Butler, and Aaliyah Butler and a host of

aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephew.
