George Kevin O'Brien, age 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Denison, Texas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

George was born on June 19, 1952, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Richard Oliver O'Brien and Regina Evelyn (Yacup) O'Brien. He graduated from Virden High School in 1970, where he proudly served as class president all four years. A gifted and well-rounded athlete, George lettered in every sport the school offered-football, basketball, golf, and track-and also excelled in baseball and tennis. He later earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Springfield.

In the early 1970s, George began his career with Pillsbury Mill in Springfield, Illinois. He later moved to the Pillsbury Plant in Peoria, Illinois, then to New Albany, Indiana, before finally making his home in Denison, Texas, where he continued his career at the Pillsbury Plant. Over the years, George was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and loyalty-qualities that earned him deep respect and lifelong friendships.

On September 4, 1981, George married the love of his life, Donna Grose. Their 44 years together were filled with love, laughter, and the deep companionship of a true partnership. George's proudest role in life was that of husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He and Donna were blessed with one daughter, Mandy Dick, and her husband, Jimmie Dick, both of Denison, who brought great happiness and pride to his life.

George's love only grew as his family expanded. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Dustin O'Brien; Angel O'Brien and her husband, Trevor Harrison; Gavin O'Brien and his wife, Paige Williams O'Brien; and Madison O'Brien. His heart was fullest when he became "Papa" to his great-granddaughter, Kyah O'Brien, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Outside of work and family, George found peace and joy in the outdoors. A passionate golfer, he was happiest on the course, where his skill, and love of the game made every round memorable. He was a fisherman who loved the quiet of the water, a hunter who appreciated the beauty of nature, and riding horses. His hobbies were more than pastimes-they were treasured moments spent sharing laughter, lessons, and stories with those he loved most.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Regina O'Brien; his brother, Kenton Evan O'Brien; and his sister-in-law, Jacalyn O'Brien, wife of his brother Richard.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Donna; his daughter, Mandy, and her husband, Jimmie Dick; his beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter; his brothers, Richard O'Brien, and Patrick O'Brien and his wife, Marci Megginson O'Brien; his sister, Margaret O'Brien Bonczyk and her husband, Bruce Bonczyk; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who cherished him deeply.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Gary Vogel officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four Rivers Outreach in Sherman, Texas, an organization close to the family's heart.
