George Ports Obituary

Visit the Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center website to view the full obituary.
George William Ports III was born in Richmond, Virginia, and spent his childhood moving around as the son of a Methodist minister. From an early age, his life was shaped by faith, service, and a deep love for the Lord. He made North Carolina his home for most of his life and resided in Wake Forest for the final eight years.

George was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He spent more than 20 years serving as a Senior Associate with Capital Associated Industries, where he was known for his integrity, dedication, and servant-hearted leadership.

George had a profound appreciation for God's creation. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and duck hunting, and possessed a remarkable knowledge of wildlife and nature. Time spent outdoors brought him peace and joy, and he often found God's presence most clearly reflected in the quiet beauty of creation.

Above all, George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who placed his family at the center of his life. He loved them fiercely, faithfully, and without condition.

A man of quiet strength and deep faith, George lived his life as an example of Christ's love. He served others humbly and reflected God's grace through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. While he will be deeply missed, we rejoice in the assurance that he is now in the presence of his Savior.

George was preceded in death by his father, George W. Ports Jr.; his mother, Jamie Jones Ports; his daughter Lauren Michelle Ports, and his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy Glover Ports, with whom he now rejoices in eternal life.

He is survived by his son, Cullen Lee Ports and wife Jennifer of Wake Forest, North Carolina; his daughter, Hillary Ports Bomgardner and husband Clay of Cedar Point, North Carolina; and his treasured grandchildren, Evans Jamie Ports, Chesson Lee Ports, Sarah Grace Bomgardner, and James Lee Bomgardner. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Daneille Ports, and his beloved niece and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bay Leaf Baptist Church and Samaritan's Purse, organizations that reflect George's heart for faith and service.

A memorial service celebrating George's life and his victory in Christ will be held at Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27614, on January 7, 2026, at 3:30 PM. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 2:30 PM in the fellowship hall.
