George Theodore Rice

George was born Nov. 15, 1927 to John and Irene (Curtis) Rice in Portland, OR. George grew up in North Portland and attended Roosevelt High School. At the age of 17, George enlisted in the US Navy and served in WWII. After the war, George used the GI Bill to go to college and study law. George met Virginia Bryan in 1954, they married shortly afterward and moved to Tillamook, Oregon. During that time, George worked at an auto parts store and served as a volunteer Firefighter. George returned to Portland in 1958 and joined the Portland Police Bureau where he served for 25 years and retired as a Lieutenant on March 24, 1983.

After retirement, George and Virginia moved to Bend, Ore. They enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife and hiking. They hiked all the trails in the Columbia Gorge, the Cascades, and the Oregon Coast.

George is survived by three children, Kevin Rice, Susan Stoneking and David Rice, 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Ann (Bryan) Rice and his Great Granddaughter Fiona Richey.

George will be remembered at a graveside service at 11:30am on Friday, January 23rd, at the Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend, Ore.
