George Lowe Roach, age 88, of Mangum Oklahoma, passed away Friday afternoon, January 23, 2026 at Mangum Regional Hospital, in Mangum.
George was born in
Mangum, Oklahoma on January 19, 1938 to George and Aline Roach. He attended school in Mangum and graduated from Mangum High School in 1956 and was a proud member of the Mangum Alumni. George's first "real job" was working the soda fountain at the local drugstore. This job sparked his interest in the medical field and eventually led to a lifetime career as a pharmacist. On February 14, 1960, George married his best friend and love of his life, Peggy Brooks and they spend 50 wonderful years together. Early in their marriage, they lived in several places while George served in the military. These locations included Wichita Falls, Midwest City, and eventually Weatherford, where he attended pharmacy school. In 1964 he earned his degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy, later receiving his Doctorate Degree. George began his pharmacy career in Sayre but moved to Mangum in 1967 where they made their home and raised their children. George worked as a pharmacist at Bratton Drug, but quickly began a career as the pharmacist at the Mangum City Hospital where he worked until 1984. In 1984 George began working at the Oklahoma State Reformatory as the pharmacist in the medical unit and in the early 1990's he transitioned into the role of the regional medical director for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections retiring in 2000. In November of 2004 he returned to the Mangum Hospital serving as the Pharmacist and remained in that role until December of 2019. George was a faithful member of the Mangum Church of Christ where he served as an elder for several years. George was a collector of all things and took great pride in being able to help those who might be working on a project by providing an item they could not find at the local store.
