George Sands Rommel Jr., 83, passed away peacefully at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida, on February 22, 2025.
Born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on May 18, 1941, George lived a life filled with adventure, dedication, and a deep love for the sea.
A proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, George earned the rank of Seaman (SN) following his education at Riverside Military Academy. His passion for the ocean led him to a lifelong career on the water as a Charter Boat Captain. Operating out of Sailfish Marina on Singer Island, George captained the "Marauder," guiding countless guests on unforgettable fishing expeditions and creating cherished memories along the way. He finished his nautical career working in the boatyard at Rybovich Marina.
George was also known for his soft spot for animals, especially cats. Over the years, he shared his home with many feline companions, each one a beloved member of his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Sands Rommel and Carmen Williams Rommel, and his beloved sister, Stephanie Rommel Ripley. He is survived by his niece, Kimberly Rommel-Enright, her husband, Steve Enright, and his grandnieces, Cassandra and Alexandra Enright, who brought immense joy to his life.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal Service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in George's memory to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League (www.peggyadams.org), or to a charity of choice.
George's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his adventurous spirit, devotion to family, and the gentle heart that loved both the sea and every cat who crossed his path.
