George Savvaides, 92, of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully at home on July 16, surrounded by his loving son, Steve,daughter-in-law, Natalie, and granddaughter, Tina.
George was born in Greece to the late Savvas and Despina Savvaides, the youngest of five children. From the age of 9, George worked in the coal mines to support his family.
He married his late wife Parthena in 1956, and they immigrated to Norwalk, CT in 1971 to give their children the American Dream. In Norwalk, he continued to work hard to support his family through a variety of construction jobs and eventually retired from his final position at Pepperidge Farm.
With his wife, he would always work on home renovation projects and gardening, going to Church every Sunday at St. George since its beginnings in Norwalk. He modeled hard work in everything he did and inspired his family to achieve greatness.
A loving husband, father, and papou, George cherished the time he spent with family and friends. He loved to share a good cup of Greek coffee whenever anyone visited him. He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 19, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851, followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850.
