George Sears Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tate Mortuary from Oct. 6 to Oct. 7, 2025.
George Vernon Sears III passed away in Salt Lake City on Thursday, October 2nd, following a brief illness. He was born on September 4th, 1941, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to George Vernon Sears Jr. and Belle Anderson. On April 18th, 1992, he married Karen Perkins in Holladay, Utah. George spent much of his life following his passion for photography. For almost 50 years he explored the deserts of the southwest hunting for the perfect shot. For much of his photographic career he used large format, black and white film as his preferred medium only recently converting over to digital photography for convenience.
George did all his own photo developing in a hand-built dark room in his home. He was an avid hiker and has trekked across the state, but he especially enjoyed his Wasatch Hiking group Thursday hikes with his beloved wife, Karen. For the past decade George also enjoyed hiking, exploring and photographing with his friends and brother in Kanab, UT. He was passionate about classical music and at any given time he could be found with headphones on, sitting in front of his CD player, listening to Bach, Mozart or any of the great composers.
Geroge is survived by his wife, Karen Perkins, brother, Andy Sears, son, Ben (Wendy) Sears, daughter, Rosey (Dan) Christensen, and three grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held in their home in Holladay on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, 11:00 am. For more information about the service please reach out to [email protected].
