My beloved Dad, George Smith was called up to heaven Wednesday, September 13, 2023.  George was born January 3, 1931 to William Walter Smith and Cora Harrison Smith of Rockport, MS  He graduated from Co-Lin Community College then enlisted in the US Air Force.  After marrying his precious wife, Alice, he served in Italy during the Korean War.  He was later stationed at Keesler Air Force Base.  Completing his degree at USM was his next stop before moving to Jackson.  He was employed in the mortgage loan business working at Kimbrough Investment Company and Trustmark National Bank.  George’s Christian faith guided his life as he served by teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and was named a Lifetime Deacon as he served many years at Oak Forest Baptist Church.  George cherished his role as a Dad and could be found at every activity, whether it be softball, bowling, Bible drill or piano recitals.

George was preceded in death by his wife Alice; infant son, Stephen and daughter, Cynthia and 11 siblings.  He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Smith of Jackson and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Services will be Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 2:00pm with visitation starting at 1:00pm at Wynndale Baptist Church, 11287 Springridge Rd, Terry, MS.  Interment will follow the service at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Sontag, MS.

Memorials may be made to Gideon International to share the Word of God with others.
