It is with a heavy heart and cherished memories that we announce the passing of George E. Soltysik on September 23, 2023.
Born on November 13, 1948, in Old Forge, PA, George was a beacon of light and laughter, demonstrating an intelligent wit and abundant generosity throughout his 74 years.
George was a man of many talents and passions. His quick wit and humor endeared him to all who knew him. His intelligence was not just confined to his work as an electrical engineer in fiber optics and glass manufacturing, where he retired from Corning Incorporated. He was also a smart negotiator, always able to strike a good deal on anything. His generosity extended beyond his family and friends to his community, where his contributions were recognized with multiple awards, including the Society of Black Professionals "Broadening Corning's Diversity Efforts" in 2001, and the 2003 National Leadership Award from Congressman Tom DeLay. A lover of music, George played the trumpet and the upright bass with the Hepcats Big Band and Twin Tiers Community Orchestra. He was also a fervent Penn State football enthusiast, an avid fisherman, and most importantly, a devoted Christian who found the utmost importance in the Gospel message.
George's life was deeply enriched by his loving family. He was the beloved husband to Elizabeth Soltysik, whom he married on March 20, 1971. He was the cherished father to Amy (James) Johnson, Timothy (Tina) Soltysik, and George (Sharon) Soltysik, and the adored Dziadzu to 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine (David) Graf, along with 6 nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Stella Soltysik, and his son, Joseph Soltysik.
As we remember George, we are reminded of the verse, "Well done, good and faithful servant...Enter into the joy of your master" (Matthew 25:21). His life was a testament to this scripture, filled with love, laughter, and selfless service.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM at Beartown Road Alliance Church, 21 Beartown Road, Painted Post, New York, 14870.
