Elizabeth M Galbraith, age 77, of Addison, NY passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Corning Rehabilitation Center in Corning, New York.

Born on July 27, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, she was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Delaware where she excelled both academically and athletically. She attended the University of Delaware in Dover, Delaware.

Elizabeth had a long and fruitful career working as a proofreader and editor. She was well regarded in the publishing field and was often acknowledged to be the smartest person in the room. Following her many years of working in house at W. B. Saunders, a leading medical publisher, Elizabeth made the transition to self-employment and mastering the evolving digital technology. This transition allowed her the freedom to homestead in West Virginia and then settle in West Chester, Pennsylvania where Elizabeth fulfilled her life-long dream of reading Homer's Iliad and the Histories of Herodotus in the original Greek.

In her later years, Elizabeth relocated to the Southern Tier in New York, to be close to her parents as she continued her work in the increasingly complex "global" medical publishing industry. She was a loving and dutiful daughter, whose presence in their lives made their sunset years truly "golden". Her tireless efforts and patience enabled their joint annual production and management of a large organic garden of herbs, flowers, and vegetables as well as a small, well-cultivated orchard of fruit trees.

From childhood, Elizabeth was an avid reader, who gained an encyclopedic and ever-growing knowledge that spanned the spectrum of human endeavor. Not only did she make short work of the most challenging crossword puzzles, but she gladly shared this information when needed, and her counsel was treasured by friends and family.

Elizabeth was a lifelong naturalist, animal rights advocate, and environmentalist long before these views were considered fashionable. Most recently, her affection for animals found ample outlet in caring for a well-loved assortment of 17 cats from three unexpected litters of kittens. Elizabeth's second passion was cooking and baking. Among her friends and family, Elizabeth's well-developed senses of taste and smell were well known and her holiday cookies, quick breads, scalloped potatoes, lasagna, baked spaghetti, and assorted soups and stews were legendary.

Elizabeth is survived by her former partner and continued friend, David Metcalf of Reedy, West Virginia; brothers, Hugh C. (Alison) Mason, Jr. of Newtown Square, PA, and David L. Mason of Wellsville, NY; 6 nieces and nephews; and also, Jessica, Junior, Sox, Nosey, Casey, Lovey, Blondie, Darling, Frankie, Scaredy Cat, Rufus, Brenda, Gracie, the "ginger bros" Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, and the "color kittens" Dolly and Calico.

It was Elizabeth's wish that there be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's name may be sent to the Chemung County SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic; or Doctors Without Borders.
