Elena Aleksaniantc Obituary

Elena Semionovna Aleksaniantc, age 84, of Painted Post, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 20, 1940, in Leningrad, U.S.S.R. (now St. Petersburg, Russia), Elena was the beloved daughter of Semion Nikitich Altuhov and Anna Anisimovna Minkina. After attending St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University, Elena worked proudly as an electrical engineer, designing high-voltage transmission systems.

Elena was a ray of sunshine. She was kind, compassionate, gentle, warm, hardworking and clever. She kept tight-knit, lifelong friendships, such as her university choir group, which continued to meet for over 45 years. New friends were always welcome too, like her "Coffee, Tea, and English" group at the Southeast Steuben County Library. A lifelong learner, Elena began studying English at the age of 80. A mere two years later, she passed the oral American Civics Test, and, with great pride, she was granted U.S. Citizenship.

Deeply curious, she was an adventurous traveler and loved history, museums, ballet, opera, classical music, and reading. Most of all, she delighted in the beauty of nature. Her fondest summers were spent in the countryside with her late husband, Vladimir, at the cottage he had built, where they gardened, strolled, hiked, swam, and foraged together.

Elena is survived and deeply missed by her daughter, Ekaterina Kuksenkova; her son-in-law, Barry Orlando; and her grandchildren: Anna Kuksenkova, Vasily Kuksenkov, Devin Orlando, and Nathan Orlando. She was the loving wife of the late Vladimir Petrovich Ardabatckii, to whom she was married for 32 years.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday morning, September 13, 2025, with visitation at 10:00 am and a service at 11:00 am, at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning, NY. All are welcome to share remarks following the service; remote attendees may submit remembrances to be read.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203, https://preserve.nature.org/.
