Andrew Dunning Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. on Aug. 27, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Andrew "Andy" Leon Dunning of Painted Post, NY, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior the evening of August 22, 2025 at the age of 90.

Andy, also known as "Bud", was born on February 16, 1935 to Lawrence and Josephine (Soule) Dunning. Starting in childhood, Andy's lifelong desire was to serve God with everything that he had. Andy graduated from Practical Bible College and served as an interim pastor at many local churches, including Borden Baptist and Thurston Christian. His involvement in ministry at North Baptist Church also included serving as a deacon and trustee, teaching adult and children Sunday School, visiting those in the hospital and at home, and serving in rescue missions. Near and dear to Andy's heart was going on short term mission trips to Jamaica to help with building projects at churches and orphanages.

He married Naomi Travis on June 15, 1957 and welcomed his only son, Jeffrey Dunning, a year later. Andy led a quiet, humble life and enjoyed tending to his garden, feeding and caring for the birds, taking short road trips in his latest car, going fishing, picking apples, and fellowshipping with others at senior luncheons. Andy showed love to his family in quiet ways: saving the Sunday comics to be read after church, scooter rides around the yard, small cars and gadgets presented with a big smile in spite of Grandma's protests and "bless you" goodbye hugs. Andy worked as an orderly at Corning Hospital before starting a lifelong career at Ingersoll-Rand from which he retired. Andy received encouragement from his favorite verse, Psalm 84:11, "For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."

Andy is survived by his son, Jeffrey and Bonnie (Fleming) Dunning; sister, Rosemary (Dunning) Finnefrock; sisters-in-law, Joyce Travis and Ruth (Travis) Head; brother-in-law, Harry Finnefrock; grandchildren: Amy (Dunning) and Adam Shuey, Travis and Jenna (Duell) Dunning, Benjamin and ReBekah (Farrand) Dunning, Jennifer (Dunning) and Jeffery Simpson, Stephanie (Dunning) and Mitchell Carr, Daniel Dunning, and Erin (Dunning) and Carter Calkins; great-grandchildren: Dane, Lylah, Arlo, Kellan, Abigail, Keanu, Hailey, Elliott, and Lucille; and many friends and family.

Andy was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Naomi Travis Dunning; his parents, Lawrence and Josephine (Soule) Dunning; his brother, Lawrence Dunning; sisters, Leona Dunning and Dora (Dunning) Keeney; parents-in-law, Carl and Sarah (Fish) Travis; sisters-in-law, Linda Travis and Maude (Guilds) Dunning; and brothers-in-law, William Head, Lyle Keeney, and Rev. Paul A. Travis.

The family will host Calling Hours at North Baptist Church, 127 Sly Avenue, Corning, NY on Tuesday, September 2nd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor John Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Corning.

In remembrance of Andy's life, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Missionary Fund at North Baptist Church or online at https://www.northbaptistchurch.org/give/.
