George Walker Obituary

On the morning of September 5, 2025, surrounded by his wife, Dianne, and the family he cherished, George Conway Walker peacefully completed his remarkable journey through life. Born in San Marino, California, to Alva (née Conway) and Wendel Walker, and younger brother to Elizabeth Black (née Walker), George’s life was marked by boundless curiosity, a generous heart, and a steadfast devotion to those he loved.

A proud graduate of Stanford University with a degree in mechanical engineering, George’s dedication to service led him to enlist in the United States Coast Guard, beginning his career stationed in Hawaii. A transfer to Milwaukee shaped the rest of his life, and for the past 25 years he split his time between Milwaukee and Bonita Springs, Florida.

George’s love for life was infectious. A talented athlete in his youth and a lifelong football fan, he carried his passion for sports into a life filled with adventure—sailing, golfing, and exploring the world with an open heart and joyful spirit. His faith was a guiding force, and he was a devoted member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in River Hills, Wisconsin.

For nearly 40 years, George embodied grace, humility, and strength through his sobriety, offering hope and encouragement to countless others. His life was defined not just by his achievements but by his profound ability to love. George was happily married three times, each marriage expanding his already generous heart and creating a large, blended family he adored.

He was the proud father of three children with his first wife, Patricia Berry—Julie Walker, Jennifer Bell (Mark Van Der Linden), and Charles Walker; stepfather to two children through his second marriage to Mary Winters - Elizabeth Sande (David) and Michael Winters; and stepfather to three more through his marriage to Dianne Farrell - Daniel Farrell (Amy), Keran Farrell, and Kathleen Whitworth (Shannon). He is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephew Cathy, Tina, David, Becky, Trisha, and Linda; former brother-in-law Don Schneeberger; sister-in-law Janice T. Sortor (Gary), 15 grandchildren and step-grandchildren that called him “Poppy;” Nicholas, Christina, Kaleigh, Michael, Andrew, Matthew, Nathan, Megan, Kieran, Conor (Ashley), Riley (Matthew), Darby, Emma, Ford, and Reagan; and his first great-grandchild Forrest.

George taught everyone around him what it meant to love unconditionally. He welcomed strangers into his home and heart like family, offered his wisdom freely, and approached life with humor, humility, and grace. A world traveler with a curious mind and an open heart, George lived a full and vibrant life yet still leaves us all wishing for more time with him.

He was truly one of the good ones - a man who made everyone feel valued, loved, and at home. His legacy of kindness and generosity lives on in his family, his friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

It’s a celebration of Dad’s life, so preppy yacht club or country club attire is encouraged. Wear your finest plaid, seersucker, madras, etc.!

Memorials in George’s name are appreciated to The 24 Hour Club, 153 Green Bay Road, Thiensville, WI 53092.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in River Hills at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 7845 North River Road. A private burial will take place following the service with Military Honors, and everyone is invited following the service to a reception held in St. Christopher’s Community Room.
