Georgene Derda

Georgene Derda, age 77, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday April 25, 2024 in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes and Crematory. Funeral services will be held a 10:30 am Friday April 26, 2024 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 11045 Parsons Road, Duluth GA 30097. Burial will follow in Peachtree Memorial Park in Peachtree Corners.
Georgene was born in Chicago, IL to Helene and George Welacha and had 6 sisters and one brother. Her parents passed away at a young age and she helped raise her youngest siblings in addition to being a loving wife and raising her own son and daughter. She was always very close to her family and even though they lived far apart, she talked to at least one of her sisters every day.
After moving to Georgia, Georgene worked for many years and retired from SunTrust Bank. Over the years she had several Old English Sheepdogs who all held a special place in her heart. She adored her children and grandchildren who brought her so much joy. She loved to babysit them when they were young and the grandkids loved spending time with their "Aussie". She is leaving behind lots of fun memories her family will treasure forever.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Theodore (Ted) Derda, son Brian Derda (Maureen), son in law Jeff Weir, Grandchildren Kelly Derda, Caitlin Derda, Jackson Weir and Lindsey Weir, Sisters Linda Lee (Terry), Donna Batinich (Steve), Rita Porto (Jim), Nancy Schultz (Rich) and Janice DeCarlo. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene Weir, sister Connie Pirillo, and brother George Welacha.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
