Georgia Lee Schmalzried, age 94 of Plymouth Mi. passed away on May 2, 2025.
She was born on March 23, 1931 in Dodge City, Kansas to her parents, the late Helen (née Waters) and Walter Dierking. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Raymond Schmalzried; loving mother of two children – Brenda Lee Schmalzried, Gretchen Marie (Arthur) DiTullio and proud grandmother of Raymond (fiancée Jessica Brown) DiTullio.
Georgia was called to the Nursing profession. She truly wanted to make an impact on the lives of her patients offering them comfort, care and support while under her responsibility. Georgia was a very proud 1954 graduate of the very first class of a five-year Nursing program at the University of Kansas. While attending KU, she met her husband to be Raymond through his sister Lukie, her roommate. They married on February 22, 1959, and moved to Plymouth Mi. She went back school and earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Wayne State University Detroit Mi in 1961. She worked at Hawthorn Center in Northville, Michigan from 1960 and was appointed Director of Nursing years before retiring in 1993.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 701 Church Street, Plymouth, Michigan.
Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Dighton Memorial Cemetery in Dighton with Rev Jennifer Boeker officiating.
Those who wish to honor the memory of Georgia Lee Schmalzried are invited to consider a contribution to the Michigan Humane Society and First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth in care of Boomhower Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
