Chong Cha Choe, born May 9, 1936, in Hokkaido, Japan, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, in Garden City, Kansas, surrounded by her loved ones. She lived a life centered on family, care, and quiet dedication.

She spent the first half of her life in South Korea, where her early years were shaped by the culture, traditions, and experiences of her homeland. In the later half of her life, she made her home in Garden City, Kansas, embracing a new community and way of life while carrying with her the memories and influences of where she began.

She found great joy in gardening, neighbors and friends would often mention passing by the house and seeing her hard at work with her flowers. She took pride in preparing meals that brought family and friends together. Known for her warmth and hospitality, she created a welcoming home and cherished a special bond with her grandchildren, who were a constant source of happiness in her life. She enjoyed staying active, especially running marathons during her time in South Korea, which brought her deep fulfillment. Music was another source of joy, and she often found comfort in listening to her favorite songs. In her free time, she loved going shopping, whether for necessity or simply for pleasure. She also had a deep appreciation for sewing and working with her hands to create something unique.

She is survived by her son, Yongki Yi, and his wife, Jade, of Killeen, Texas; her daughter, Lee Gallegos, of Garden City, Kansas; four daughters and one sister in South Korea; and five grandchildren in the United States: Richard Gallegos, Angelina Gallegos, Jason Yi, Andrew and wife Salma Yi, and Grace Yi. She also has eight grandchildren in South Korea. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother.

Visitation services will be at 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas.

Mass will take place at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas.

Burial to follow at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, Kansas.

Chong Cha Choe’s journey concluded peacefully, a reflection of the gentle and nurturing soul she embodied throughout her life. She will be remembered with great respect and affection, her presence dearly missed, but her impact enduring through the generations she so faithfully cared for.
