Georgia Smith Wilson passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born on Monday, August 31, 1931, in Soda Springs, Idaho, the child of George Heber and Cora Plet Smith of Grace, Idaho.
Heber was the barber in Grace, and they lived in a back room of the barber shop on Main Street in Grace. She tells of stories of what it was like living in the small room that her mother keep so very tidy. Her dad had a slot machine in the barber shop that the customers would use while they waited to get their hair cut. When he closed the shop for the day, he would close the window blinds and set her up on a stool and give her some nickels so she could play the slots. Thus, she developed a love to play the slots.
When she was in Junior High School, her dad was able to purchase a home just across the street and through the block from the barber shop. She was so happy to be able to move into the house and have her own bedroom.
She went to Grace High School and was active as Grace High School "Red Devil" cheerleader, She loved cheering on the teams and being a cheerleader and would tell stories of the training and drills that they were required to do. One time as her dad loved sports and would follow the team around to watch them, Grace football team was to go to Soda to play. They had decided to let school out so the students could go support the team. He dad told her that she could drive the car to Soda if they were released from school. At the last minute the principal cancelled letting school out. She decided that she would take her fellow cheerleader friends and go anyway. She did not know that her dad went to the game with the principal. They got to Soda and ran into the principal and her dad. It wasn't good, her and her friends were in trouble and for punishment had to wash all the windows in the High School.
Georgia met her high school sweetheart, Loren, a farm boy from down the valley. They dated her Junior and Senior year. Loren was a year older and graduated in 1948 but waited for her to finish school the following year.. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple for time and eternity on June 22, 1949. They were later blessed with two sons, Garth Heber born on May 20, 1952, and Galen Loren, born January 19, 1955. As a family they loved to travel and go camping. Georgia and Loren had traveled to every state in the US except Alaska. They were also able to go on a Caribbean Cruise with Joy and Galen and friends.
Georgia was an avid Utah Jazz fan and would get frustrated watching them play ball. She always looked forward to the NBA season and Jan Fraser would always make sure she had the schedule.
Georgia learned to knit from her Aunt Lula several years ago and had made hundreds of wash clothes. She also loved to read and keep her house spotless and well organized.
Georgia is survived by her two sons, Garth (LeAnn) Wilson of Clearfield, UT, and Galen (Joy) Wilson of Soda Springs, ID. She also is survived by 7 granddaughters, one grandson, 25 great-grand children and one great-great-grandson.
The family would like to thanks to doctors, John Franson, Hunter Goodenough, Jonathan Housley and the staff of Enhabithome care. They made her passing peaceful.
